The Pretty Smile - Photo by Karsten Hartel (Wikimedia)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\nSo with all of these big scary teeth, you would think that the Cookiecutter Shark is a major predator of the sea, right?\u00a0 Well, due to their small size and relatively weak swimming ability, the Cookiecutter Shark is actually the only parasitic fish in the shark family.\u00a0 You are probably wondering how a shark could be a parasite, aren’t you? Believe it or not, these sharks swim around and simply take bites out of other fish.\u00a0 The bite doesn’t kill them but it is big enough to satisfy the Cookie Monster….errr…. Cookiecutter’s appetite.\u00a0\u00a0 How cool is this shark!?<\/p>\n
Cookiecutter Shark Fast Fact – <\/strong>Have you ever wondered how this shark got its name?\u00a0 As you might expect, it has something to do with their bite.\u00a0 The mark their bite leaves on their victim is in the shape of a cookie.\u00a0 Aaaah, the famous “Mark of the Cookiecutter”.\u00a0 The brown colouring of this shark is what gave rise to their secondary name, the Cigar Shark.<\/p>\nThanks again to Hailey as this was definitely a fun fact.\u00a0 I hope all of you enjoyed today’s animal.\u00a0 See all of you tomorrow.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
